More than 50% of the Romanian women’s national ice hockey team is made up of players of Hungarian ethnicity, while the Hungarian minority is only making up about 6% of the total population of the country. Ice hockey has a strong tradition in my region, which is called Szeklerland. While men’s hockey is thoroughly documented and celebrated around here, no ample account has been made about the women’s role and challenges in this sport.
How easy was it in the beginning to play as a woman in a male sport in Szeklerland? Opinions were divided.
Some people thought that women belong in the kitchen, and others encouraged me.
